About Gateway Automotive

Gateway Automotive is an auto repair shop in Modesto, California. It is listed at 302 N 9th St, Modesto, CA 95350, which places it among the local businesses of Modesto that residents and visitors turn to when they need this kind of service close by.

In Modesto, shops are busiest on Monday mornings and before holiday weekends, so a mid-week appointment gets a car seen faster. Labor rates across California vary by neighborhood and by shop type, from small independents to dealership service bays, and mobile mechanics now cover many routine jobs in the driveway. Before authorizing a repair, ask for the estimate in writing, whether the shop warranties parts and labor (12 months / 12,000 miles is common, some offer more), and whether it can provide a loaner or a shuttle. Check the listing for hours, the makes the shop works on and its Google rating, then call ahead, since walk-in capacity is limited at smaller shops.

The business lists hours on 5 days of the week. Typical hours are 8 am–5 pm. It is closed on Saturday, Sunday. As with most places, expect changes around holidays; the phone number below is the fastest way to confirm. The listed phone number is (209) 356-5306. Many businesses also reply to text messages on the same number if it is a cell phone.

On Google it holds a rating of 4.8 out of 5 from 97 reviews, which is a strong result for an auto repair shop in Modesto and suggests consistent service.

Modesto is in California, on the West Coast, where the climate ranges from foggy coast to hot inland valleys, wildfire season can affect air quality in late summer, and traffic is the main thing to plan around. Getting around Modesto is easiest by car; street parking is metered in busy downtown areas, and most suburban businesses have their own lot. Ride-share apps such as Uber and Lyft operate across California's larger cities, and public transit varies from extensive to minimal.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I had Gateway Automotive replace the motor in my vehicle, and I couldn’t be happier with the work they did. They were professional, knowledgeable, and kept me informed throughout the whole process. The job was done right, and the car is running great again. It’s hard to find a shop you can trust, but I definitely feel comfortable recommending Gateway Automotive. Great customer service, great work, and a great experience from start to finish. I really appreciate everything they did!

I have been going to Frank for years now. I can honestly say he's the BEST mechanic you will EVER find!!! He's honest and trustworthy, and he gets the job done fast. I promise you YOU won't be disappointed! I've lived different towns over the years, but when I need to get my car fixed, I'll drive out of my way to just go to him! Give Gateway Automotive a try!!!

Met with Joe S., who was very friendly and down to earth, did not feel pressured at all to buy, my credit isn’t great, at…all, and they (Joe & Josh) were able to get me approved for an awesome little Honda Fit! It’s so cute. Joe even assisted with helping me drop off my car rental. Very helpful folks! Thank you guys!

I’m a stickler on customer service, Frank and his team are amazing!! I’ve was going to another mechanic with one of my trucks, and they really didn’t take the interest in solving the problem with my truck. I went to Gateway and they new what they were dealing with. They were upfront about everything. They solved the issue and earned my trust. I’ve taken my other truck there with full confidence! As a business owner, integrity is everything. Gateway is the only mechanic I will ever trust! Much appreciated Frank! Jeff

❤️❤️❤️ OCTOBER 19, 2025 UPDATE ❤️❤️❤️ After all of my phone calls to him for car advice and no matter how annoying I can be, Frank has never once lost his patience with me. Frank holds high standards of service, knowledge and hard work and he insists on the same for his employees. His prices are fair, he's honest and his education is extremely impressive. After I totaled my car frank helped me choose one without hesitation (probably because I kept bringing my choices to him only to have him say NO YO 😂😂). After more than a decade of trusting my safety with Gateway and thanks to Franks help ... Looks like I'll be a loyal customer forEVER 😜 The shop is open Mon thru Fri and his prices remain very fair. END UPDATE For years I have been able to rely on and trust the staff of Gateway Automotive. Today when my car died outside of the library I called the shop and Ryan assured me that if I towed it over they would take care of it so I did. I was immediately greeted by the staff and Ryan went straight to work. The problem was diagnosed and repaired in less than 2 hours. He was direct, accurate and incredibly helpful. I am grateful for his hard work. The entire staff is friendly, kno
